VIA Metropolitan Transit adding autogas buses to fleet 

VIA Metropolitan Transit has been awarded a $3.94 million federal grant to replace paratransit vans and to develop an asset management system.

The Federal Transportation Administration awarded a $2.52 million grant under the State of Good Repair Initiative that will be used to buy 35 replacement vans for VIA. It is part of a three-year contract that will ultimately replace all 104 vans in VIA’s fleet with new, propane-powered vehicles.

Another State of Good Repair grant for $1.416 million was awarded for the purchase and implementation of an asset management system that will provide procedures through which VIA can manage its current and future assets.

VIA is the local transit authority for San Antonio and Bexar County.in the Southeast Propane Autogas Development Program and is saving thousands in fuel costs with Alliance AutoGas.
