CleanFuel USA inks propane autogas deals with Texas schools

Georgetown-based CleanFUEL USA has made 37 new or expanded contracts with Texas independent school districts for propane autogas refueling infrastructure that is expected to cut nearly $1.2 million in annual school transportation costs.

This will support school buses running on propane autogas. Districts receiving installation of new equipment includes the Austin Independent School District.

The contracts are affiliated with recent grants from the Department of Energy for $12.6 million and $3.1 million from the State Energy Conservation Office for vehicles and infrastructure. They are administered through the Railroad Commission of Texas.

Propane autogas is the third most widely used transportation fuel globally, after gasoline and diesel. It’s the lowest greenhouse gas emitting fuel, averaging 40 to 50 percent less than gasoline and diesel per gallon, according to a press release.

CleanFUEL USA, founded in 1993, develops propane fuel dispensing systems and storage systems and employs about 75 workers.
