Autogas for America Reaches 100 Stakeholders

February 24, 2011—Autogas for America, the unified voice of the U.S. propane autogas market, reached 100 stakeholders last Friday. The non-partisan organization is working to reduce emissions, foster a green economy, and reduce America’s domestic energy deficit by increasing the number of autogas vehicles on the road. The roster of stakeholders includes industry partners, autogas vehicle fleets, environmental advocates and a range of other supportive affiliates.

Autogas for America has advocated the successful passage of incentives to promote the use of autogas as an alternative vehicle fuel. Last year, the federal 50-cent-per-gallon excise tax credit and the 30-percent-alternative-fuel-infrastructure credit were renewed through 2011.  The group’s stakeholders promote parity of incentives for alternative fuels like natural gas and propane autogas. They support the growth of the U.S. autogas market by working with the nation’s vehicle fleets to switch from gasoline to autogas.

“Reaching this significant milestone of 100 stakeholders is a success for Autogas for America, but also for the autogas industry,” says Autogas for America Founder Stuart Weidie. “Autogas is an alternative to gasoline that is available right here, right now - and with the help of our committed stakeholders, we are showing policymakers and the public how autogas vehicles can benefit our nation.”

Current stakeholders include automotive and propane industry leaders like Roush CleanTech, Ferrellgas, AmeriGas Propane, Alliance AutoGas, the Propane Education and Research Council, the National Propane Gas Association, CleanFUEL USA and Clean Cities Coalitions from across the country. Autogas is an alternative vehicle fuel that substantially reduces harmful emissions, costs less than gasoline, and is almost entirely domestically produced. Propane, or liquefied petroleum gas, is called autogas when used as a motor fuel. It is the third most widely used vehicle fuel in the world, with over 14.6 million autogas-powered vehicles globally.
